Support at Home personal care contributions: what changed from 1 October 2026
Personal care has moved from the Independence contribution category to Clinical Supports under Australia’s Support at Home program. The change took effect on 1 October 2026.
What changed?
The contribution category for Support at Home Personal Care changed. For approved personal care services delivered from 1 October 2026, participants do not pay a contribution when the service is included in their support plan and they have available Support at Home funds. The Australian Government explains the change and its effective date in its personal care contribution guidance.
What can Personal Care include?
Depending on the approved service type, Personal Care can include help with showering, dressing, eating, personal hygiene, non-clinical continence support, and assistance with self-administration of medication. The official My Aged Care update explains the contribution change and these conditions in plain language.
What has not changed?
- Approval for Personal Care and available Support at Home funds are still required.
- The change applies to services delivered on or after 1 October 2026. Services delivered earlier remain subject to the contribution arrangements that applied at the time.
- The Personal Care service scope and the way care is delivered have not changed because of this contribution update.
- Contribution rules for other Support at Home services, including Independence and Everyday Living, continue to apply.
